10 years ago, January of 2009, I came to Houston from India for my Master's degree. It was a big move. I did not know anyone. I had never ventured past my comfort zone and friends ever before. This was scary, but good scary.
10 years later, everything has changed. I have made new friends, friends for a lifetime. As I now leave, I know these are the people I never will be able to shake off, nor do I want to. I will miss the barbecues on my patio, those who waltz in at 4 am unannounced, Valhalla, West Alabama Ice House and Tacos Tierra Caliente.
I want to take time to celebrate everyone I've met for sharing memories and making me laugh and smile as I embark on a new and exciting journey through time and places. I hope to see each and every one of you again and again, wherever I might end up being, whatever I end up doing. Thank you for being there through the best and worst of my times. Thank you for your willingness to be seen in public with me. Thank you for making me worth your while. Thank you for making the past few years around the sun the best years of my life.
"Oh kind friends and companions, come join me in rhyme,
And lift up your voices in chorus wi' mine;
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain,
For we may or might never all meet ever again.
Oh, my ship lies in harbour and she's ready to sail,
Grant her safe voyage with no gale;
And if we should meet again, be it sky, land or on sea,
There's no-one in this wide world half so happy as me.
All the money that e'er I spent, I know I did in great company
For I will always remember your kindness to me.
Here's a health to the friendships we hold so dear,
Here's a health to the sweethearts we hold so near,
Here's a health to such love as fortune bestows,
May the future make friends of all of our foes.
Oh kind friends and companions, we'll now bid adieu
So lift up your voices in chorus wi' mine;
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain,
For we may or might never all meet ever again."
